Validus to move Cloud Services to Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Validus-IVC Ltd (“Validus”) provides motor claims analysis and management services to insurers, brokers and self-insured fleet operators.  Its systems include vCASE™, AskLudo™ and WhoseFault™, all of which are delivered under the SaaS (Software as a Service) philosophy.

After significant market evaluation and technical testing of its services, Validus have made the decision to move to AWS.  James Duez is Validus’s Chief Technology Officer.  He states, “Unlike traditional dedicated hosting environments, AWS gives us unprecedented control over our infrastructure, including the ability to launch new products rapidly and scale them quickly.”

“Now is the right time for us to move from our own internally hosted infrastructure to a cloud provider, and AWS is the perfect partner for us.  The move will ensure that our platform keeps pace with our growth plans, and the growing demand for our services.”

Validus has been analysing motor claims for many years and its main claims platform vCASE™ actively processes thousands of new claims every week.  It is also a secure repository for millions of claim documents which need to be accessible by clients quickly, and from any location.

“A highly scalable storage system is a mission critical requirement for Validus, and Amazon S3 is a key component in the future of our model.”

Validus is known for its expert systems that continually analyse claims data looking for inflation and fraud.  Moving forward, Amazon Elastic Computing services will provide all of the flexible computer processing capability required to enable vCASE™ to scrutinise each and every claim quickly.

“In the round, the most significant advantages for us are configuration flexibility, scalability, improved risk management and an enhanced disaster recovery provision.”

Validus expects to be using AWS to underpin 100% of its cloud services by the end of May 2012.

Validus Support Bullied Children’s Charity this Christmas

The 150 strong team of employees at Validus have been busy buying raffle tickets this Christmas to raise money for the Red Balloon children's charity. Raffle prizes include gifts donated by clients and suppliers including bottles of wine.

Mike Srokowski, Chief Executive Officer of Validus said, “The children supported by Red Balloon are some of the most vulnerable in our society, and have been bullied so badly, many have attempted or considered suicide.  In previous years, we have simply distributed the generous gifts sent to us amongst our staff, but this year the whole business has been really enthusiastic about doing something worthwhile for the local branch of this charity.”

Validus recently raised hundreds of pounds for Children in Need where dozens of staff baked and sold cakes, and some of the Validus men even had their chests and legs waxed for the cause.

Mr Srokowski continued, “The Validus Board are very proud of our employee’s generosity. Whatever some of money they raise, we will match to ensure this worthwhile charity receive a donation that can truly make a difference.”

About Red Balloon
Red Balloon provide an 'intensive care' full-time education for children aged between 9 and 18 who are unable to go to school because they have been severely bullied. At least half of the students they take have attempted or seriously considered suicide. They promise the students whom they accept a safe environment with clear boundaries for behaviour, and an individual full-time academic, pastoral and therapeutic programme.  Once the students have regained their confidence and are able to cope academically and socially, they support them in their return to mainstream school, their entry to further education or to employment.

Interview with Mike Srokowski

Back in 2006 I was the CEO of a credit hire operator (CHO), and it was clear that growing inefficiencies within the claims process were increasing frictional costs.
